An expression of creativity can only be shared once. As I write, I seek to capture a precise message. As one paints, he aspires to capture the image in his mind.
Hypothesis: Our art is damaged by premature judgement – by the artist and others.
To keep your art free, do not share it before your “inner work” is completed. If another sees accidentally (or insists), smile and say, “It isn’t finished, and I am not quite yet taking judgements.” Or, better yet, simply smile and pleasantly say, “I haven’t shared yet.”
If instead you explain what your intentions are for the piece, or if you heed another’s judgement of your piece too early, you confuse your vision with two: “Your Work” and “Whatever Work.”
